Welcome to The Black Pinafore, an independent tailoring business established in 2010, focusing on women's designs from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s.
Founded by Debora Baudoni, a graduate in costume design for stagin and a former theater seamstress for opera foundations (twenty years of experience).
My business focuses primarily on making custom-made dresses, ready-to-wear dresses, always in limited quantities, and machine-made knitwear.

But the sources of inspiration are endless; I can help you and suggest designs, drawing inspiration from period magazines, old black and white photographs, and vintage sewing patterns, often adapted to modern proportions.
In the online shop, you'll find limited-edition clothing or one-of-a-kind pieces, all handmade, just like in the old days, with quality fabrics, hand stitching, original period buttons and buckles that lend that authentic feel.

The Black Pinafore dresses are made by combining sartorial theatrical techniques with bourgeois techniques, they are garments made to last over time.
I use vintage patterns that I modify according to the needs of measurements and alternate them with patterns made by me, always tailor-made.
The blouses, dresses, jackets and coats are constructed so that they can be easily modified in case of need and to be able to enlarge them over a size.
Other features are the use of haberdashery from deadstocks, open stretched seams, hand-edged hems.
95% of the fabrics are always wet before being cut. Each dress is shipped with the card instructions for washing,drying and ironing.

In each dress you will find the spare button with the thread.

This service consists of creating limited-edition clothing for immediate delivery or to be made to your measurements (one order at a time). I often create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces using the same fabric, but with the option of choosing other fabrics.

Your ideas - custom order

The client contacts me with a specific, personalized request, with a very specific idea based on images from old magazines, black-and-white family photos, or Hollywood films.
On the first day of every month, you'll find three listings in the SHOP section. This listing contains all the information you need to reserve your idea.
On the first day of every month, here (LINK), you'll find three quantities for €60 (deposit). Each listing can include one to three products, which will be discussed, created, and shipped within the current month.
Shortly before shipping, you'll receive the balance, including shipping costs.
